Suffix -holic

Hello, English learners. Welcome to a new lesson. We will look at different vocabulary words using the suffix -holic.
The suffix “-holic” is used to describe someone who has an addiction or an intense obsession with something. It originates from the word “alcoholic,” which refers to someone addicted to alcohol. Over time, the suffix has been adapted to describe various types of compulsive behaviours or strong preferences.

Alcoholic
someone addicted to alcohol. This clinic specializes in treating alcoholic patients.
Bookaholic
someone addicted to reading books. Pam and her husband have joined a bookaholic group where members share their favourite reads.
Cleanaholic
someone addicted to cleaning. She spends hours organizing and tidying up because of her cleanaholic nature.
Coffeeholic
someone addicted to caffeine. Being a coffeeholic, Sonya couldn’t resist the new coffee blend at the store.
Chocoholic
someone addicted to chocolate. Ryan realized he was a chocoholic when he found himself craving chocolate every day.
Fashionaholic
someone addicted to fashion. Suffix -holic Tanya is a shopaholic who loves shopping for designer clothes.
Fitnessholic
someone addicted to fitness activities. Ray is a fitnessholic who decided to become a personal trainer.
Foodaholic
someone addicted to food. As a foodaholic, Jill enjoys cooking and experimenting with new recipes.
Gadgetaholic
someone addicted to gadgets. Being a gadgetaholic, he couldn’t resist buying the latest smartwatch.
Gambleholic
someone addicted to gambling. Alyster’s gambleholic tendencies have led to significant financial losses.
Gameaholic
someone addicted to playing games. Our son is a gameaholic and spends hours playing video games every day.
Internetaholic
someone addicted to the internet. Suffix -holic His internetaholic tendencies often lead him to stay up late surfing the internet.
Movieholic
someone addicted to watching movies. Her friends know she’s a movieholic and often invite her to movie marathons.
Musicaholic
someone addicted to music. As a musicaholic, she loves attending concerts and music festivals.
Newsaholic
someone addicted to news. Patricia is a newsaholic who enjoys watching news channels and staying informed.
Partyaholic
someone addicted to partying. Pat knew very well that Rachel was a partiaholic so she invited her to a party.
Phoneaholic
someone addicted to using their phone. He admitted to being a phoneaholic and decided to take a digital detox.
Selfieholic
someone addicted to taking selfies. As a selfieholic, she loves finding new and interesting backgrounds for her selfies.
Shopaholic
someone addicted to shopping. Suffix -holic Mrs Clarke is a confessed shopaholic who loves spending her weekends at the shopping mall.
Speedaholic
someone addicted to speed or fast activities. He joined a speedaholic club where members share their experiences with fast-paced activities.
Sleepaholic
someone addicted to sleeping. Do you think I am a sleepaholic if I have a lie-in at weekends?
Sportsaholic
someone addicted to sports. Being a sportsaholic, John spends her weekends playing tennis and football.
Sugarholic
someone addicted to sugar. Jane joined a sugarholic club where members share their favourite sweet treats.
Techaholic
someone addicted to technology. Being a techaholic, he couldn’t resist the latest smartphone upgrade.
Travelholic
someone addicted to travelling. All my friends know I’m a travelholic and often ask me for travel trips.
Workaholic
someone addicted to working. George realized he was a workaholic when he couldn’t remember his last day off.
