It is a high holiday season and many of us have been looking forward to our holidays. Whether you’re going to the seaside, lakes or mountains, or have some other plans, I’m sure it’ll be useful to look at these holiday collocations:
City break – a short holiday spent in a large city.
Ex: Peter and Angela are going on a city break to Rome next week.
Stay in a hotel/self-catering accommodation
Ex: We’re staying in a beautiful beach hotel.
High/low season – a time of a year when the greatest/smallest number of people visits a place.
Ex: Holidays are cheaper in low season.
Ex: We’re staying in a family-run hotel.
Ex: John’s booked a double room for us.
Ex: There are many seaside resorts on the island.
Bed and breakfast – a guesthouse that provides overnight accommodation and breakfast.
Ex: We’re staying in a small hotel that does bed and breakfast.
Book a holiday/hotel room/appartment
Ex: They advised us to book a hotel room early.
Go sightseeing – visiting interesting places while on vacation.
Ex: Shall we go sightseeing after breakfast?
Get a suntan – brown skin caused by being in the sun.
Ex: She’s got a beautiful deep suntan.
