Common Mistakes: Capable/Incapable of Doing Something

  • Don’t say: Most children are INCAPABLE TO sit still for longer periods.

Say: Most children are INCAPABLE OF sitting still for longer periods.

Don’t say: That man is CAPABLE TO fix the tap.

Say: That man is CAPABLE OF fixing the tap.

Note: after the adjectives capable/incapable use the preposition OF + -ING

Ex: I think John is capable of doing this job.

My sister is incapable of driving.
